Governments across Canada acknowledge the benefits of a circular economy and its capacity to deliver on economic, social and environmental outcomes, and many are developing action plans to accelerate the transition.

 Public procurement in Canada represents 200 billion annually, approximately 15% of the country’s GDP. Collectively municipalities represent 80% or 160 million dollars of the total public procurement spend and as such play a critical role in advancing Canada’s circular economy.  Circular procurement takes a holistic approach that redefines value, to prioritize social and environmental outcomes along with economic.   When used strategically, public buying power can wield significant societal and market transformation. 

Join us for a two-day virtual workshop to expand knowledge of the concepts, the benefits of the circular economy, and how procurement is a critical and direct mechanism to shift markets to deliver low carbon, low waste goods and services.  Participants will be provided with practical information and resources on how to immediately incorporate circularity into procurement policies and projects from concept to design to measurement that inform a personalized implementation pathway.

Objectives of the workshop include:

  • Introduce circular economy concepts and its ability to deliver on broad environmental and social objectives along with price.
  • Recognize the effectiveness and application of circular business models to redefine and deliver value.
  • Understand the barriers to implementation and strategic actions to overcome them.
  • Learn to set ambitions that deliver on policy commitments and guide circular strategy with procurement as a key implementation tool.
  • Uncover circular opportunities according to key spend categories, special projects, and within value chains.
  • Gain insight into outcomes-based policies, requirements and specifications to drive innovation in the market.
  • Master priority measurement indicators to benchmark accomplishments and track success.
  • Initiate a unique action plan to support circular procurement implementation.
