The Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance (GHFFA) project, Serving Up Local, is a partnership with Durham and Halton Regions and the City of Hamilton. The project aims to increase the local food purchases for long-term care homes by five percent of each municipality’s baseline. The project also sought to influence procurement language by including local food targets and values into RFPs. For Halton Region, an opportunity to focus locally on a high commodity category resulted in an increase in local food purchases by 43.5%. |
