Sustainable purchasing is embedded in London’s Procurement of Goods and Services Policy as a framework to drive triple bottom line benefits locally and globally. The framework supports decision-making to achieve the policy’s objective of obtaining the best value for goods and services and considers the full life cycle of products, where possible. The purpose of the framework is to include environmental and ethical criteria into procurement processes and set specifications that achieve: ecological benefits, healthy and safe workspaces, reward supplier leadership, reduce unnecessary consumption and align procurement practices with the city’s sustainability initiatives.
